Emailed to the Whitehouse Lotsa Whitewash

Mr President,

I voted for you in 2004 because I believed you showed some leadership and resilience during 2001, and agreed with you, most of congress and the country that we needed to confront terrorism. I support the troops and forces over there putting their lives on the line to help protect my country and family from the greatest threat to freedom since WWII.

However, issues at home are suffering as a result, and the poor performance in Iraq and Afghanistan has crippled our ability to care for our citizens here.

I do not necessarily agree with the Federal rebuilding of New Orleans except for making the levees safe and using all technology to avoid a repeat. Yet after almost two years, we haven't even cleaned up the damage, let alone repaired it! Please help me understand why? Why have we abandoned these citizens?
Word is that it's a racial thing. Surely not?

Secondly, our corporate 'healthcare system' is a disgrace. I have never been comfortable with for-profit healthcare, as greed will always cause people to try to reduce care and services in order to further line their pockets. Furthermore, our Emergency Rooms are packed with uninsured sick people using the facilites as their first line of care. I have had personal experience of waiting with kitchen-injured employees, usually bleeding, having to wait behind uneducated unfortunates  begging for antibiotics for their 'flu. The subject of conversation usually turns to "I bet if the President had to experience this, things would change overnight".

We are spending *hundreds* of millions of dollars rebuilding Iraq, yet our citizens at home suffer from preventable disease and lack of basic healthcare. My Rotary Club supports indigent care with personal donations. Please help me understand why we have been told that our country can't afford Universal Health Care?

Thirdly, we are not a Theocracy. When our Government brings our Christian God into politics, we sound no better than the Mullahs themselves. I am glad our judges and officials have our faith to guide them while enforcing secular law. However, the minute we legislate from the pulpit, we are no better than our enemies. We need to re-take the higher ground.

I feel that my Government has continually lied to me. From '92 to '07. Republican & Democrat alike. It has got to the point where I doubt everything you and your administration tell me. I'm not saying you *have* lied, it's just my feeling, based on the 'smell' test. Don't even get me started on 'ear-marking' and the explosion of corporate lobbying (staffed by ex-elected officials!) determined to reduce taxes and increase profits at taxpayers' expense.

I love my country, my family, and my right to send these letters without fear of persecution. But I despise half-truths and hiding behind "Executive Privilege" even more. Please help me understand why the people whose salaries my taxes pay can not be held more accountable?

Please don't blame the media. Credit me with enough gumption to discern the difference between news and selling soap powder.

On the bright side, you all have over a year until the next election to prove me and most of the world wrong. I know you can do it, because you must, for our Country's sake.

Yours, Gary Wise
